The standards we build and test to — and what each one buys you.

Every fan specification cites standards, and most vendor answers repeat the numbers back without saying what they mean. This page states, for each standard we work to, what it governs, what it means for you as a buyer, and exactly how far our claim goes.

In short

Which standards are industrial centrifugal fans built and tested to?

Performance is tested to the IS 4894 / AMCA 210 method, with ISO 5801 on the same basis. Balancing follows ISO 21940-11, at G 6.3 as standard and G 2.5 above 50 m/s tip speed. Vibration acceptance follows AMCA 204 at the works and ISO 14694 in the field. Process fans on a refinery specification are built to API 673. CE and ATEX conformity is self-declared, Category 3 for Zone 2 and Zone 22. The quality system is ISO 9001:2015.

The list

Standard by standard, and what it means on your order.

These are the standards a Jitamitra fan is designed, tested, balanced and declared against.

StandardWhat it governsWhat it means for a buyer
IS 4894The Indian Standard for centrifugal fans: construction, rating and the method for performance testing. The duty on your datasheet is proved by a test run to a published Indian method, not to a house procedure. IS 4894 is named first on every Jitamitra datasheet.
ANSI/AMCA 210The laboratory method for testing fans for aerodynamic performance rating - test set-ups, instrumentation and the calculation of flow and pressure. Our rig follows the AMCA 210 method, so a figure you read on our test report is comparable with one from any other maker testing to it. It is the method, not a certification seal.
ISO 5801The international equivalent of the same performance-testing discipline, using standardised airways. It is the international reference our IS 4894 and AMCA 210 testing sits alongside, which matters on an export specification that names ISO rather than IS.
ISO 21940-11Mechanical vibration: rotor balancing, and the G grades that express permissible residual unbalance.Your balance grade is a number you can specify: G 6.3 as standard, G 2.5 above 50 m/s tip speed or on request. Balancing is done in house on a two-plane machine, not sent out.
ANSI/AMCA 204 and ISO 14694Fan vibration: balance quality and the vibration levels accepted at the works and in the field.Works acceptance and site acceptance are different numbers, and a specification that mixes them causes arguments at commissioning. We state which limit applies where.
API 673The petroleum-industry standard for special-purpose centrifugal fans: mechanical design, rotor dynamics, materials, inspection and testing. On a refinery or petrochemical enquiry we build to API 673 against your datasheet, with any departure written into a deviation list before the order. See our API 673 page.
Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) and 2006/42/EC (CE)European conformity for equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres, and for machinery safety.Jitamitra self-declares ATEX Group II Category 3 for Zone 2 gas and Zone 22 dust, and CE under the Machinery and Low Voltage Directives, with a technical file. There is no notified body in this route and none is claimed.
ISO 9001:2015The quality management system standard: how work is planned, controlled, inspected and corrected.Registration RQ91/11838, issued by International Certification Services Pvt. Ltd. and accredited by JAS-ANZ, covering both plants and naming design in the scope.
Stated precisely

Three claims that are routinely overstated — including by us, if we are careless.

Procurement checks these, and a loose word costs a vendor the order later rather than sooner. So the exact position, in three lines:

Where a standard applies to a material or to a test method rather than to the fan, we say so in the same sentence — a coating standard describes the coating, not the machine.

How it is proved

The rig, the balancing machine and the paperwork behind the citations.

Questions

What buyers ask about our standards

Which standards do you test fan performance to?

Fans are performance-tested in-house on a 200 HP VFD test rig to the IS 4894 / AMCA 210 method, with ISO 5801 on the same basis. IS 4894 is named first on our datasheets because it is the Indian standard for the performance testing of fans. Fans above the rig's 200 HP are run at derated speed and scaled to the specified duty by the fan laws.

Are your fans AMCA certified?

No supplier should use that phrase loosely. Jitamitra tests in accordance with the AMCA 210 method; it does not hold an AMCA Certified Ratings Programme seal, and the two are different things. Tested to the method means the test set-up, the instrumentation and the calculation follow AMCA 210. A seal would mean a licensed programme with third-party ratings verification.

What balance grade do you work to, and to which standard?

Two-plane dynamic balancing to ISO 21940-11: G 6.3 as standard, and G 2.5 above 50 metres per second tip speed or wherever the specification calls for it. G 2.5 is deliverable in house and is priced, not refused. Works vibration acceptance follows AMCA 204 with BV-3 as the industrial default, kept separate from the in-situ limits in ISO 14694.

What does built to API 673 mean on your offer?

It means the fan is designed, manufactured, inspected and tested against the API 673 requirements the buyer's datasheet invokes, with any departure listed as a written deviation before the order. API 673 is a design and acceptance standard, not a licensing scheme; there is no API monogram for a centrifugal fan and none is claimed.

Is your CE marking or ATEX build certified by a notified body?

CE and ATEX are self-declared under the manufacturer's sole responsibility, which is the correct route for this equipment class. ATEX is Group II Category 3 only, covering Zone 2 for gas and Zone 22 for dust, declared under Directive 2014/34/EU. CE covers the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU with a technical file.

Are you ISO 9001 certified, and what is the scope?

Yes. ISO 9001:2015, registration RQ91/11838, issued by International Certification Services Pvt. Ltd. and accredited by JAS-ANZ. The scope reads design, develop, manufacture and supply of centrifugal fans and blowers, allied systems and laser cutting sheet metal parts and precision fabrication, and it covers both manufacturing plants. The certificate is a direct download on our quality page.
